Wine Storage Racks

Wine racks are an important piece of furniture for an avid collector of wine and can serve more than just a decorative purpose. They aid in the correct storage of wine thereby helping preserve its quality. There are a variety of wine racks available ranging from metal to wooden wine racks. These racks are also available from purely functional to elegant and in a wide price range.

A relatively cheaper wine rack consists of cube boxes that have diagonal shelves so your bottles form a triangle when stacked. Another inexpensive option is a stackable wood wine rack that has scalloped bars to hold a large number of wine bottles. These are especially useful for small spaces and practical as additional levels can be added when required. More expensive choices include intricately designed wrought iron wine racks and wine trees that present your wine collection in an attractive fashion. Some of these may include a wood or tiled top for serving wine and cheese, and stem glass holders. Some wine racks also come with rolling castors so that you can move them around while serving. It's important to consider lockable castors to prevent a rollaway cart, especially if the wine rack is functioning as a serving cart. If you have a stationary bar or wine rack and serving area, a hanging stemware rack can add a nice touch and keep your glasses dust free. These racks can be hung from the ceiling or a wall and have slide-through slats that hold the bottom of the glass upside down.

Wine storage is as an integral part of wine making itself. Unless stored properly, wines can worsen in quality and taste, thus rendering the entire process of winemaking futile. Choosing the correct wine rack can help you avoid such a situation.

If Sideways didn't quench your thirst for a wine flick, look out for Bottle Shock. Based on the "Judgment of Paris" in 1976, a British wine merchant (played by Alan Rickman) travels to Napa Valley—not yet synonymous with good wine—to check out the small wine scene and is left so impressed that he decides to conduct a blind taste test between California and French wine. The movie premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and will be released in theaters August 6, 2008. Check out the trailer

Wind-Powered Tall Ships Are Once Again Important As Oil Prices Hurt Trade

Fri, 25 Jul 2008 14:30:22 PDT
Sometimes it takes an energy crisis to make us realize the value of old technology. As oil prices soar, tall wind-powered ships are looking like an increasingly viable alternative. The first commercial cargo of French wine to be transported by sailboat in the modern era is due to arrive in Dublin this week after a six-day trip. The 108 year-old boat, chartered by French shipping company Compagnie de Transport Maritime a la Voile (CMTV), is carrying 30,000 bottles of wine. Though the ship tr

Interview: Matthew Goode Talks About the New Gayer Brideshead Revisited

Fri, 25 Jul 2008 09:04:04 PDT
Ask any gay man 40 and over about Brideshead Revisited, and he’ll gush and pine rhapsodically over the 11-hour 1981 miniseries made for British television which aired here in the U.S. on PBS. Based on Evelyn Waugh’s famous 1945 novel, it starred a young Jeremy Irons as Charles, a young newbie at Oxford in 1922 who befriends flamboyant, boozy, vulnerable and haughty Sebastian Flyte (played by Anthony Andrews), a rich and noble young Lord. The boys become fast friends and by all accounts it

Bauchelain meets Emancipor Reese Submitted by Abalieno on July 25, 2008 - 15:58. My decision to read Bauchelain and Korbal Broach novellas as an interlude before I plunge into Memories of Ice revealed to be a good one as the first novella, Blood Follows, is the tale of the very first encounter between Bauchelain and his manservant, Emancipor Reese (and these being characters that will appear in Memories). On the forums I read the three novellas will be eventually released as accessible priced
