Sales of famous 1970s wines are on the increase worldwide, with once-popular, now infamous brands such as Black Tower and Blue Nun making a resurgence. Is it time to say goodbye to Chardonnay and Merlot and embrace old favourites like Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Afros, and Disco?

The combination of wine and cheese may sound a little cliché, perhaps, dare I say, even a little cheesy. Still, since their invention, wine and cheese have been a dazzling duo, going together like strawberries and champagne, Merlot and steak, boxed wine and Taco Bell. Doing it their way, wine and cheese are the Laverne and Shirley of alcohol.

A stately 2005 Sonoma County blend, it’s engineered from Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Viognier, Sangiovese and Barbera. It smells deliciously of ripened cherry and supple leather, and its spicy black cherry flavors are nearly enrapturing enough to make a man forget the nagging mistress that he is unfortunately married to.
